The Olympic mascot is called Miraitowa, which is derived from the Japanese words mirai (future) and towa (eternity). This name was chosen to promote a future full of eternal hope in the hearts of people all over the world.
The name SOMEITY comes from "Someiyoshino" — a popular type of cherry blossom — and the phrase "so mighty". SOMEITY can show enormous mental and physical strength, representing Paralympic athletes who overcome obstacles and redefine the boundaries of possibility.
Sports vocabulary list
Sensei will introduce some sports name in Japanese.
Students work in pairs to choose one sport from the list. These students have to say, 'Nan desu ka?' (What is it?) then "act out" the sport without speaking. The audience then guesses which sport they think it is using the focus language:
Nan desu ka? =What is it?
_____ desu =It is a _____. *Example Yakyuu desu= It is a baseball.
If you are not 100% sure you can say, _____ desu ka? It means 'Is it___?'
'Hai, sou desu' means Yes, it is!
