Lesson 5

Konnichiwa and Welcome to Lesson 5! Today we are learning about Ninjas and the amazing houses they once lived in.

What was a ninja?

A ninja was a secret agent who lived in Japan more than 800 years ago, they were also known as Shinobi. They wore a dark suit which covered everything but their eyes and carried various weapons. The functions of a ninja included espionage, deception, and surprise attacks. They received specialised training which included martial arts, how to walk without making a sound, and how to be aware of your surroundings so you can always be ready for anything.

Where did Ninja live?

Ninja lived in a house called a 'Ninja Yashiki' which in English means residence, big house or mansion. A Ninja Yashiki appears to be a normal house from the outside but on the inside there are many clever contraptions to help Ninja to defend themselves against enemies.
